The anticipation around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
