19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his first trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after that period of that year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive approach and regular reactions on court had caused observers to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the last five games to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, took control to force a decider.

He saved 4 initial opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
